As a Youngling
Layla was born on Coruscant and recruited by the Jedi order at a young age. An orphan all her life, she developed a unique connection with the force that allowed her to communicate with non-sentient creatures. She was quickly picked up by a traveling circus for a few years when the owner happened by her orphanage and she was showing off her abilities. He profited quite a bit from her exploitation so when a Jedi Master came along to collect her he wasn’t willing to let her go. After luring the Jedi into his office and attempting to poison him (then shoot him when the Jedi realized something was amiss), the Jedi Master struck down the owner and seized his traveling circus and absorbed it into the Jedi Corps. After handling the remaining corrupt individuals in the circus and dealing with the illegal black market suppliers with Layla’s help, he gained her trust enough for her to agree to come to the Jedi Temple for training.

To this day Layla checks in on the circus from time to time which has changed from exploitative freak show to informative zoological institution under the direction of the Jedi Order. Layla remembers the few members of the Circus that treated her well and visits them from time to time when she finds herself back on Coruscant and they make every effort to keep up relations with the Jedi that shows them favor.

As a Padawan
Layla was snatched up by Master Phanius for her unique gift in communicating with animals. Little did she know that he only wished to exploit her ability and whisked her away to Onderon when he left the Order. He greedily attempted to corrupt her in order to tame the indigenous dragons that populated the planet although his efforts were initially stymied in small part because of her resolve but mostly due to her experience in a similar situation. Her preparation for the circumstance allowed her to temporarily hold out against the new Sith Lord who locked her up until he could devote more time to her since he mistakenly believed she’d be easy to corrupt. Before his plans could meet fruition, however, she found herself rescued by a few Jedi Knights investigating Phanius’ activities on the planet wherein a new Jedi Knight agreed to take her under his tutelage.

Personality and Abilities
Layla’s ability to connect with even the meekest of creatures has garnered a deep respect for all living things and she is able to weigh the value of life better than most. Her more involved exposure to life makes her even more keenly aware of the living force than most her age which both humbles and empowers her. She is soft spoken but resolute in pursuit of what she thinks is right but deep down is still the wide-eyed orphaned girl amazed at the bustling world around her.

Layla knows only a handful of Force Powers and developed most of them during her time at the Circus. Unfortunately for her the Jedi Master that chose her as his apprentice only wanted to exploit what gifts she had already developed and had little interest in bringing forth her natural talent. All the same, deep within Layla sleeps a strong connection to the Force that will make her a power capable of turning heads if she can find the right master to bring out her potential.
